Completed Projects / Plank House for school project
« Last post by GenerationWoodworks on November 06, 2013, 06:47:24 PM »
My son had a school project to do on Native American homes. He chose to make a plank house. Back in the day the Native Americans constructed their homes with Cedar so in true form, My son and I made his from Western Red Cedar Scraps I had laying around the shop. We decided to use Cedar shakes for the roof construction as well. All in all it was a fun project and great quality time with my boy.

I modeled this spoon form my wife's grandfather's design. He was an incredible woodworker and an incredible person! The spoon is made from Mahogany and and the pattern is the Norwegian Rosemalin and can be purchased at www.generationwoodworks.com at a great price. The last picture is his actual work.

Completed Projects / Twin Cabinets
« Last post by Bcobbs on January 05, 2013, 04:24:37 PM »
The chosen materials for the cabinets were Maple ply and Aspen. This project was on a very tight budget to begin with so the client wanted to finish the cabinets themselves. The face frames were mortised and tendon joinery and the doors were made with a router bit.  Thanks for looking and any comments are appreciated!

Completed Projects / Coffee table
« Last post by GenerationWoodworks on January 03, 2013, 05:51:19 PM »
My sister-in-law saw a similar table in the internet and wanted one. This coffee table replicates an old window but I didn't want to use the thin glass that was used back in the old days. What I did was I took a glass door from an old CD cabinet and made the frame by using the mortise and tendon method so I didn't have to nail or screw anything. I then took some Oak and made the grill. That was the hardest part of the project.  Then I used 1x8 for the sides to get the depth to store magazines or decorate it with candles.  and put some legs on it. Thanks for looking!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I personally never made a plane and it sounds like fun, but I would think you need to use a hacksaw to cut the metal. Granted brass is soft so a wood saw may cut it but you are guaranteed to dull your saw. I do on occasion cut soft metal with my chop saw. I put an older blade on it backwards and cut slowly.  good luck on your plane!
